We love Jesus and want Him to be known across the world. Until He returns, we have a mission – a great commission (Matthew 28:16-20)- “to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I (Jesus) have commanded you”.
Uruguay needs Jesus.
Uruguay is the most irreligious country in Latin America – about 50% of their population identifies as atheist, agnostic, or non-religious. That is more than 1.9 million people in Uruguay who don’t know Jesus Christ.
Yes, you read that correctly. Uruguay is the most secular, non-Christian, least evangelized country in South America and one of the most irreligious countries in the world. We have a burden to make Jesus known in Uruguay. Through the Hombres de Hierro (Men of Iron) men’s ministry, relationship building, and Jesus-centered conversations, we hope to further the ministry of reconciliation that Jesus began. Through these ministries, we hope to plant new churches where they do not currently exist. We hope to glorify the name of God in Uruguay and to give the Uruguayan people a hope for their future.
Uruguay is a world leader in suicide.
Uruguay has the highest suicide rate in the Americas, the 13th highest in the world, and the trend is growing. This is also over twice the rate of the world average and is a regional outlier in the Americas. A life without Jesus leaves the people of Uruguay susceptible to the terrible hopelessness that can overwhelm us. Only the healing power of faith in Jesus can heal such deep wounds, and we hope to share a message of eternal hope for a beautiful, joyful future with Christ.
They also just passed a bill to become the 8th country in the world to lawfully practice human euthanasia. Please pray for Uruguay and for this bill to get vetoed at the Senate level.
